VW Warwick 2008

VW Warwick 2008 General Information

Welcome to VW Warwick, the second all VW drag racing weekend for 2008. With a successful VW Portland held in Victoria in February this year, heading into VW Warwick the overall drivers points leader is Rod Penrose, and the State Of Origin VW Drag Racing points leader is South Australia. This is the third year running for Warwick, and even though the event has grown quite considerably, the basic format is still the same - as much VW drag racing as competitors can cram into two days.

The programme begins with a street parade and static display in the Warwick CBD, followed by an afternoon of open practice. Sunday is a round robin competition format, including a burn-out comp. There will also be a show'n'shine, swap and trade displays. The big news for 2008 is that VW Trikes have been given the green light by ANDRA to compete in a class of their own at both the VWMA events of Portland and Warwick.

Both VW Portland and VW Warwick are 1/8th mile tracks, a perfect introduction for the novice, yet long enough to entice the professionals to go hard. If you have never tried drag racing, but have always harbored a desire to give it a try, these all VW race meets provide a non-threatening environment, where you can learn at your own pace and collect some useful tips from the experienced racers. Classes cover Aircooled, Watercooled, VW Bodied Other Engine, VW Specials (ie Buggies) and Trikes.

For 2008, both events will have their own separate points and trophy presentations, plus a combined State of Origin points system to determine the overall winning VW Drag Racing State, which will be announced at the Warwick event. With a number of interstate competitors planning to attend both events, the final result will be quite close.

This website offers some general information about how to drag race, the programme and prices for VW Warwick, and an entry form for competitors. As pre-entry is mandatory, competitors must have their entry and money to VWMA by the 26th September. No entries will be accepted on the day.

See you on the track!
