In late 2009 I purchased an old 1962 split window shell, and had it delivered to my place via a flat bed. While unloading the bus, the tow truck driver mentioned seeing one of these things in a shed just around the corner from here. He actually remembered towing it there back in 2004 after it had been involved in a t-bone accident. After a bit more prodding I was able to learn the exact address, which roughly worked out to be only 2 streets away from my place. And like all good tragic Kombi lovers do, I followed the scent. A few days later I finally met Frank Taylor, an 86 year old gentleman from East Geelong, who had lived in the same house all his life and was the mystery owner of said damaged Split bus.
