Immersed in the VW culture on a daily basis it sometimes takes a bolt from the blue to realise that this hobby is a continuum of new ideas and hidden treasures. From the plethora of barn finds and paddock relics emerges a project that re-invigorates the VW soul. Tom Gotta and Stephan ‘Spez’ Bettzuge from Frankfurt Germany, have always strived to make a square VW peg fit a round hole, and after setting a naturally aspirated ¼ mile record with their ‘Wheeler-Dealer’ 1953 Barndoor Kombi, they were both on the hunt for their next maverick project. What surprised them both was the discovery of a unique piece of VW coach built history from the land of the Long White Cloud.
