Kylie Thomas creeps her 1961 Beetle up to the lights. Her little sleeper bug hides a healthy 1915cc under the lid and she carefully disguises the power under foot as she waits for the green. A cursory glance at the car in the left lane assures Kylie they are none the wiser to her game. She selects first, then back to neutral, quick check where second lies then back into first, all the while keeping the engine at a gentle purr. In anticipation of the lights she instantly revs to 3000, waking the driver next to her and they both launch from the line. Oblivious to others around her Kylie short shifts second, holds through 4500 rpm for third and then grabs 4th. With the pedal to the floor she hammers past the line before slowing to allow her unwitting challenger the corner privilege. After all, this is the 1/8th mile drag track at Warwick, and the left lane has return lane rights!
