It was a case of third time lucky for this 1956 Oval Beetle when a young 14 year old Blair Whittle bravely took on the unfinished project. Blair had been unsuccessfully hunting for a suitable Beetle resto candidate, and had almost thrown the towel in when he remembered an old red bug parked in a local VW workshop in his hometown of Bunbury WA. When he mentioned this to his dad Noel, a VW enthusiast responsible for inspiring his son's passion, he too recalled the same car. Blair approached retired VW mechanic Kevin Rowland who used to run the shop. Kevin confirmed that there had been an Oval stashed away in the corner of the workshop, but Blair was not the first to enquire about it. For the past 10 years Kevin had knocked back a series of offers for the small window Beetle, leaving Blair with the feeling that this would be another quest dead-end.
