Finding a 1954 Barndoor Single Cab with more corrosion than the Titanic and with better odds of becoming land fill than a truck load of fake Rolexs was the perfect Kombi find for Phil Mizzi. Here was a rare opportunity for Phil to unleash his latent VW yearnings on a classic Kombi utility. The project became known as Grover, and the plans for a Pro-stock influenced SC with a thumping power plant were taped to the workshop wall. Grover had been a working ute, originally purchased by Jefferies and Sons Electrical in Bendigo. Given the ideal light and M.C.Escher puzzle skills, the faint business sign writing can still be seen. Unceremoniously dumped in a paddock in Shepparton having outlived its useful working purpose, Grover had to wait until a VW enthusiast from Byron Bay discovered his plight. Incomplete and tittering on the edge of a basket case, the ute was offered up for sale. When Phil first saw the sad ute he decided then and there to rescue Grover, and this became his mission for the next five years.

VW Magazine Australia

VWMA is an Australian owned and published enthusiasts magazine serving both the aircooled and watercooled Volkswagen scene nationally. Published quarterly (Feb, May, Aug, Nov), the magazine is available through newsagents Australia wide or via subscription, and covers every aspect of the hobby, from the very early models through to the latest innovations, motorsport, offroad, kit, custom, books, toys and shows. If it doesn't appear in VWMA then it isn't VW related.

Now in its seventh year, VWMA also hosts two drag racing weekends, sponsors a variety of VW shows, and supports events across the country. Printed and distributed by Australian companies, VWMA is also fortunate to have access to a talented pool of home based VW photojournalists and print/web technicians, who work with VWMA to produce quality VW entertainment each issue. And in 2011, the magazine's website has evolved to encompass the online and portable information revolution with the inclusion of additional media content to enrich the printed reading experience.
