Finding a 70s Karmann-Ghia model in Australia can be a long and arduous pursuit, as the model was not officially available down under. Special dealer orders and private imports were the only means to securing one on home soil, and their rarity was reflected with the absence of spare parts and accessories. In more recent years, collectors and enthusiasts have been more active in sourcing and importing Ghias from all corners of the globe, and with the sporting coupe officially listed as a classic (minimum 30 years old), left hand drive examples can now be driven on Australian roads. This 1973 example is an import from Sacramento in California. It was a LHD coupe that had been slightly damaged, but still in excellent restorable condition. The Ghia had been brought into the country as a salvageable vehicle and then offered up for sale. Mark Davis was one of the first to respond to the ad and agreed that the car would be a relatively quick project to get back on the road.
